The channel on YouTube is worth checking out for a few reasons, but mainly to observe them getting a bit faster with each upload. The Souls speedrunning community is known to have specific categories with specific requirements to bolster the challenge that are cataloged on Speedrun. However, Elden Ring doesn't have any particular requirements as of as of yet. The leaderboards won't appear on the website until March 18, which means Distortion2's newest speedrun could not be the fastest on the market. As long as the leaderboards remain locked and the scores are published below 30 minutes is the fastest time and Distortion2 seems to hold the record for the most runs right now.
In the meantime, I'm still not yet done yet with Elden Ring! It's true, I haven't even defeated the pseudo-second major boss Godrick the Grafted, and I've been looking through around the Lands Between for gear and runes. It's a testament to the immense amount of discoverability FromSoft has packed in the title. The experience of getting lost in Limgrave is my favorite thing of Elden Ring, but I like watching people blast through the action-RPG like it's nothing. It is a source of hope that one day, within a year or two I could be able to beat Elden Ring myself.
The speedruns are slipping out of hand now. A person beat the game within two hours, without dying. Someone else had a runtime less than an hour. What's next, someone hitting Elden Ring's credit within 20 minutes or less? Perhaps someone else beat the game while blindfolded? Are the people who speedrun shiver? I don't know but I'm definitely there for it.
